GeniusUp Maths Edition

Researchers on the GeniusUp scientific outreach project will demonstrate the virtual and augmented reality, and interactive television features in GeniusUp during the academic year. The educational game comprises a set of traditional and video game cards created by the Computer Graphics and Vision and Artifical Intelligence Unit (UGIVIA) and the Video Game and Artificial Intelligence Unit (UVJIA) and aims to get children interested in science.

Game instructions

GeniusUP is an educational game for students.

The deck contains 64 cards. Each suit includes special cards:

  • Two skip cards (play skips to the next player)
  • Two reverse cards
  • Two '+2' cards (pick up two cards from the pile and miss a turn)
  • 25 question cards
  • 8 special cards
    • Four '+4' cards (pick up four cards from the pile, choose the suit and miss a turn)
    • Four change suit cards (choose the suit).

Gameplay

Each player is dealt seven cards. The rest of the deck is placed on the table and the top card is overturned. The player who gets rid of all their cards wins. Players can get rid of one card per turn, either by matching the suit or number of the overturned card, or playing a special card.

When a +2 or +4 card is played, players can choose to answer a question card. If they get the answer right, the special card has no effect. If they get the answer wrong, they get dealt two or four penalty cards.
