The project
The GeniusUp project emerged from the UIB University Transition and Orientation Programme (PortUIB). The programme includes different activities to foster a culture of science and technology for prospective university students. The project aims to use ICT to provide a fun way for primary and secondary school students to better understand different disciplines they might find challenging through multimodal video games.
Main Goals
- Using educational video games to foster a culture of science and technology amongst non-university students
- Providing non-university students and the general public with a fun way to learn about the most renowned scientists in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, maths and computing
- Taking full advantage of multimodal technology ensure maximum impact for users (classic card games, online apps, iTv, VR/AR, etc.)
- Fostering a culture of science and technology through all types of ICT
- Ensuring social and cultural inclusion for all users by developing fully accessible mobile applications based on university design principles (UDP)
- Creating a shared space to exchange experiences between users and teachers. Using social media to facilitate communication and foster ties amongst people with shared interests, particularly in the field of science
- Involving non-university teachers in new approaches based on advanced low-cost computing systems that enable students to immediately apply knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom, by fostering active joint participation and creation for new content.
